MARCH MASSIVE MONTH FOR PORT AND MANY IN BLUE SQUARE NORTH
Wednesday, February 27, 2008 (0 reads)

Southport kick off a massive month at home to Redditch on Saturday. The Haig Avenue gate will hopefully be boosted by Broadhursts Booksellers sponsored secondary school free tickets being distributed into our five secondary schools. A 1,000 tickets have been handed out. Following the visit of mid table Redditch, who had an excellent home mid week 3-1 victory over Hyde courtesy of two goals from Chris Murphy and one via Scott Rickards, the Port's points hunt at Haig Avenue see's the visits of play off rivals Stalybridge Celtic, our FA Trophy conquerors Alfreton, Workington and Boston. In all we have seven home fixtures remaining with current league leaders Kettering and basement club Leigh RMI the two clubs to visit Haig Avenue in April. Team news for Saturday is very good at this stage. Defender Matt Hocking who failed a fitness test last Saturday is expected to be declared fit and club captain Chris Holland who had to be substituted mid way through the second half at Hinckley has received treatment and is also very positive about being available. Saturdays opponents Redditch have a very good defensive record but are not particularly potent upfront. They sit secure in mid table and after being held to a draw back in September the Port players know they face a real test this Saturday as they continue their promotion points push. With Kettering losing last weekend and both Hyde and Harrogate facing mid week reversals the twists and turns of this title race have a long way to go.
