PRODIGAL PORT MANAGER WATSON RETURNS Monday, June 30, 2008 (1176 reads)
At a press conference held today at Haig Avenue, Liam Watson was unveiled as the new manager of Southport Football Club.
Liam spoke about how pleased he was to return to Southport but also explained the circumstances at Burscough that had led to a major financial review of the Blue Square North Lancashire club. Everyone at Southport FC wishes Burscough Chairman Chris Lloyd, who is a lifelong friend of Liam Watson, a speedy and full recovery from his illness.

Liam needs little introduction to Southport supporters after his incredibly successful first spell at Haig Avenue. He took a demoralised Unibond side and transformed them into a Conference North championship squad within 18 months. The following season he masterminded Conference survival before joining near neighbours Burscough at the end of the season following Southport's move to full-time football. With Burscough he once again proved his credentials winning the Unibond premier league title in his first season, and took them to a highly creditable eighth place finish in the Blue Square North last term.
At the same press conference, Liam also unveiled part of his backroom staff to include recent signing from Rochdale, John Doolan and former Southport title winning captain Chris Price.
Liam is also pleased to announce his first signing is Ciaran Kilheeney.
Next Monday supporters will have a great opportunity to meet the new management team in the Grandstand Bar at 7:30pm. As well as our meet the manager night we will unveil our new Nike kit supplied by Mark Parr of Galaxy Sports. Orders taken on the night will be at last seasons prices and for a small extra our supporters can have any name they wish printed on their shirt. Read More |

With the appointment of a new manager likely to be imminent in the next few days the club has decided to extend the discounted season ticket offer until the Friday before the first friendly versus Liverpool. So our new discount deadline is Friday July 11th. Chief Executive Haydn Preece said "We have a tremendous band of loyal supporters. Our Secretary Ken Hilton has been very pleased with our season ticket sales, we even sold sixteen last Monday on the day we had to release the news that Gary Brabin had left. We want to attract as many supporters to Haig Avenue as possible next season and thought it a good idea to give supporters a chance to show their backing to the club once a new manager is in place. We are offering free entry to all junior school children accompanied by an adult, we have our £50 season ticket for secondary school pupils which is great value and we will again be offering free secondary school entry to the first Saturday match of each month , plus new for this season also King George V College and Southport College sponsored by Broadhursts Booksellers Ltd. QUEST FOR NEW MANAGER UNDERWAY Tuesday, June 24, 2008 (18 reads)
Southport Football Club have begun the search for a new manager following the untimely departure of Gary Brabin. Nobody at Southport is happy with the way matters have been dealt with in the last few days that led to Gary Brabin being head hunted by Cambridge United just seven matches into his Port career. However with time of an essence and with a squad to put together the priority at Haig Avenue is to look forward rather than continue any recriminations. Gary Brabin and Cambridge United will now go their way and our club Southport Football Club have to prepare for the Blue Square North kick off on Saturday August 9th. The task is to appoint a manager which will provide the club with stability, success.and progression up the football pyramid. A number of enquiries came into the club within hours of Gary Brabin's departure and the club are inviting applications to be received within the next few days. |

OFFICIAL CLUB STATEMENT RELATING TO TODAYS SITUATION Monday, June 23, 2008 (18 reads)
The club can officially reveal that Gary Brabin has at his request been released from his position as manager of Southport Football Club. Whilst we recognise the opportunity for Gary to manage at a higher level was always going to be a factor in his development, the timing of this request and subsequent appointment as manager of Cambridge United has come at an extremely unsatisfactory time for the club. However we recognise that circumstances of this nature are not always in our control. A suitable compensation package has been agreed between the clubs for the release of Gary, the club will continue to prepare for pre season training next week with the appointment of a new manager a matter of urgency. |
